She had retired from teaching and had accepted a small part-time job along with volunteering at Network. Life was good, enhanced by wonderful visits from three granddaughters who had become her delight. Then her daughter, the mother of the granddaughters, arrived one morning with the little girls and announced she was leaving to be with her boyfriend a while. Her kids would have to stay there. Without any notice Joan's days were turned upside down, having adjusted her daily existence to match that of caring only for herself. Suddenly, she had to feed, clothe and nurture her three little granddaughters without a definite end point. Joan called Network and immediately received assistance. The granddaughters remain with her and Network is still at her side.
