NETWORK - NEWSQ & A With CEO For 2010- from Dallas Morning News
What challenges/opportunities will organizations such as yours face in 2010? Our overall challenge is to be ready to accommodate the short-term crises that impact the lives in 2010. In 2009, we reached more than 40,000 people. Our very first challenge in 2010 is to be ready for those individuals who have not had this type of crisis before and are finding themselves in need for the very first time. Our second challenge is to get inside that circle of helpers and share our message and invite them to participate with us, and at the same time bring in new relationships so we can ensure financial support, which will be critical if we’re going to help more people. We’ve got to be ready for the increased number that may need us and we’ve got to turn and get new relationships. This requires that we compete in that charitable arena for that same dollar. We are in the same place asking the same people and we want to make sure we get their assistance but not burden them. What are the biggest needs for nonprofits going into the New Year? Network must seek new relationships and increase the number of partnerships to stand behind our mission. How do you form the relationships you need to make Network a success? This is such a loving and caring community. I think Network is just one of the luckiest charities ever to be inside of this community where we have individuals that just know the importance of caring for their neighbors. It makes it very easy for us to communicate the mission of Network because they already understand it. How do you think Network and other organizations like Network are most likely to make a difference in the New Year? Network’s mission — and any other organization like Network (that provides basic needs) — stabilizes a community. By helping clients stabilize their lives, we are stabilizing an entire community. Network is truly like a bridge. We have clients on one side and the community on the other side. It is Network’s mission to bring them together. What are your hopes for volunteerism and results in 2010? At Network our volunteer core is our workforce. We must sustain and help those numbers grow. We’ve simply got to ensure that there is stability in their daily existence and we are dedicated to that mission. The economy is not going to change rapidly so we have got to prepare for all the things that constitute basic needs — food, shelter and clothing. We are committed to stabilize their daily existence and then moving them from the crisis to some state of independence throughout 2010
