NETWORK - NEWSNETWORK AND FEED THE CHILDRENMay 29, 2009-A truckload of food, personal care items and other necessities for children and families in need--that’s what George Lynch had in mind, and on May 29th at Network of Community Ministries, his vision came true. Lynch, former NBA professional, wanted to help get more food into the hands of those who urgently need it by underwriting the cost of transportation for a truckload of products. Each sponsored truck delivers 400 boxes of food, 400 boxes of personal care items, and two pallets of assorted goods. The food and hygiene boxes are individually packaged for convenient distribution and contain a wide variety of essential items such as canned vegetables, pasta, soup, lotion, soap, etc. Last year, Network distributed over 400,000 lbs. to 26,000 individuals in need of food across North Dallas . Feed The Children distributed over 135 million lbs. of food and other essentials to impoverished families nationwide. The families have been identified within the community who will most benefit from this service, and they have received vouchers to be redeemed on the day of the food drop. On May 29, 2009, the truck will rolled up to Network of Community Ministries, Inc. thanks to George Lynch, now a resident of Dallas . Each box of food weighed approximately 26 lbs. and can supplement the meals of a family of four for a week. The retail value of the items distributed the truckload was approximately $35,000-$50,000. From 5-7pm at the Network location, George Lynch was joined by participants in his Flight 9 Basketball Camp from the Dallas - Fort Worth area who distributed the boxes. Network’s Board also was on hand to greet the families and share in this unique alliance of celebrity donor, international charity and local community organization.
